Fitzroy Beach Holiday Park is located just outside of central New Plymouth and is Taranaki’s most beloved holiday park, with its beach- and park-side location. Travellers interested in discovering the treasures of New Plymouth, such as the Coastal Walkway and the Len Lye Centre and Art Gallery, will want to set up camp here for a number of days. Alternatively, head to the Opunake Beach Holiday Park for quiet, rural, beachside camping. The Taranaki region is accessible by State Highway 3, which circumnavigates Mount Taranaki to the east, though it accompanies both the northern and southern coastlines before jutting directly north-south. To follow the coastline west of Mount Taranaki, follow State Highway 45 from its junction in southern Hawara or northern New Plymouth. Both of these cities are excellent places to stock your refrigerator or chilly box before you head out to the spectacular remote locations of the region, as they each provide easy access to Pak’n Save, Countdown, and New World supermarkets.
