Article Sick of the City? Get out of Brisbane and in to Nature

Brisbane is a beautiful city, but even the biggest Brisbanite needs to get out and enjoy some nature from time to time. The next time you feel yourself itching for the wild, know that all you are is a campervan rental away from getting out to some magnificent sites.

Maybe you have racked up some vacation days or maybe you just have the weekend; even just an overnight trip's worth of fresh air can make a world of difference. Check out these four great nearby destinations and let these Instagram photos from your fellow travellers inspire your next adventure!

Mount Barney National Park

Rugged rock mountains peak out of the beautiful Gondwana rainforest and plunge into the bluest of skies at Mount Barney National Park, and if that isn't a sight for poor city eyes, I don't know what is. These massive rocks are actually the remains of a volcano which erupted 24 million years ago and are like a wild jungle gym for adventurous trekkers. Take a guided eco-tour through the amazing wildlife, or follow the trail and your own instincts on one of the many walking paths.

Mount Barney Lodge Country Retreat offers grassed and shady camping complete with swimming holes and amazing scenery. Bookings are necessary for any season.

Byron Bay

Byron Bay

Let the stress of your week float away at Byron Bay. Here, you'll fall in love with this quaint little beach town. Let the hippie and surf cultures wipe away your worries, let the balmy weather and endless surf calm your fears. This is a place to truly just enjoy life and be.

First Sun Holiday Park has everything you need to help you relax and unwind. While you're mere metres away from the beach and the town centre, you're also surrounded by tall trees and a peaceful atmosphere. Creature comforts including free wireless broadband access, modern showers, coin operated laundry, night security and more are all there to make you feel at home.

Conondale National Park

Conondale

Approx. driving time from the city: 1.75 hours Price: $5.95 per person or $23.80 per family per night

Ditch the city cement sidewalks for some rugged nature, stunning sights and astounding flora and fauna that await in Conondale National Park. Stately eucalyptus tress, a smattering of waterfalls and a bevy of bouldered creeks reveal themselves as you venture through this luscious rainforest. Wildlife here is of the extremely rare and shy variety, so as you walk, maintain the peace of the nature around you to get a chance at glimpsing some amazing creatures.

Booloumba Creek Camping Area 4 is a great option for rugged campers and campervans; only venture into this area if your vehicle has 4WD and high clearance. Facilities include toilets, water (unsuitable for drinking), individual fire rings and walking tracks, and you'll want to book ahead of time.

Avoid this area in times of heavy rain. Flash floods are known to happen in these parts, and you want to avoid driving through any standing water while in your rental vehicle. Check weather conditions before venturing into the area.
